Luxembourg Gardens

Stepping inside the grounds of Luxembourg Gardens will immediately transport you to a different place, an oasis in the middle of a bustling city that is Paris.

Lush lawns, beautiful chestnut trees, and well-maintained terraces are all typical Parisian style, but the Jardin du Luxembourg as what the locals call it is more than just a manicured French garden.

Napoleon Bonaparte dedicated the 23-hectare complex to the children of Paris who spent most of their childhood running around the park, watching puppet shows at the Theatre du Luxembourg, riding the merry-go-round or playing with wooden sailboats on the garden’s pond.

It was the widow of King Henry IV of France Marie de’ Medici who commissioned the garden as part of her new residence, the Luxembourg Palace. Since 1612, the beauty and grandeur of the garden have been well-preserved including the stunning Medici Fountain, which is one of the highlights of the entire complex.

A vintage carousel and a large playground is also available for children to play in, making it a perfect place if you’re traveling with kids.
